Welcome to Murchison Falls National Park | Murchison Falls Park – Uganda’s largest game park. Murchison Falls National Park is one of the oldest safari parks in Uganda also known as Kabalega National Park. The park is situated at the Albertine rift valley measuring 3,893 sqkm. The park together with other wildlife reserves including Bigungu wildlife reserve , Karuma wildlife reserve and Murchison Falls National Park form the Murchison Falls Conservation Area. Murchison Falls National park was first gazetted as a wildlife reserve in 1926 , officially designated as a national park in 1952. It is about 304 from Kampala to Masindi District which is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The park is borders several districts that is to say Masindi – south, Nwoya – north, Bulisa – west and Kiryandongo which makes its preferably easy for travellers to get there from different locations.
Murchison Falls National Park is a home to diversity of wildlife including the big four animals (Lions , Leopards ,African Elephants and Cape Buffalo) with 74 other different mammal species that is Leopard , Giraffe , Hippos , Nile Crocodile , Uganda Kobs , Dik dik , Oribi , Hartebeests , warthogs , Bohor Reedbucks ,waterbucks Grey Duiker , Bushbucks and many more. Chimp Trekking permits in Murchison Falls are purchased at Budongo Eco-Lodge. Permits are only sold to those above the age of 15 years as this is a strict and precautionary measure. However, minors below 15 years of age can be permitted to track chimpanzees only if their parents agree to sign a consent form allowing them to do the activity.
Hike To Top of the Falls
Hiking to the top of the magnificent Murchison Falls is a great chance to see a lot of nature’s secrets during a Uganda wildlife Safari. From the safari car parking lot, a short footpath leads downhill to the waterfall’s head which is a fenced viewpoint from where one can truly appreciate the most powerful falls that the Nile crashes through the narrow gap in the escarpment.
