6 Days: Murchison Falls & Bwindi Gorillas

This 6-day Murchison Falls & Bwindi Gorillas tour is a wildlife and gorilla tour that leads you to the most notable attractions, including the big 4  animals in Uganda, as you embark on the game drives in Murchison falls national park which will give you access to the lions, leopards, buffaloes and elephants, among other animal species.

Visit the Rhinos at Ziwa rhino sanctuary and after, participate in gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park which will give you a chance to see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Fly To Pakuba airstrip

Depending on the domestic flight schedule, board your flight from Entebbe to Pakuba. You will arrive at your hotel for check-in and settle in as lunch is prepared.

Enjoy your lunch and thereafter in the evening, set out for your first chance with the wild animal. You will drive for a night game drive in the Murchison falls national park.

You will get a chance to spot the Big 4 animals living in this park, which are the lions, leopards, and elephants as well as the buffaloes, the beautiful giraffes and also the smaller game such as the Uganda kobs and the wild pigs and impalas, to mention but a few.

Return to the lodge early enough to freshen up and have dinner and overnight stay

Day 2: Murchison falls morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

Wake up to a tasty breakfast in Murchison falls national park and set out for another eventful day.

Your driver guide will be waiting for you to get ready and set to embark on the second game drive in the Murchison falls national park. You will follow a different trail for a different experience and a chance to spot more wildlife.

This park is a home to a big number of birds so if you are interested in the birds, this morning game drive is a great chance to spot a number of those.

Right after the 4-hour morning game drive, you will head back to the accommodation to escape the hot scorching midday sun. Lunch will be served; relax at the lodge terrace or in your room waiting for the next activity.

In the later afternoon when the sun has calmed down abit, you will make your way to the River Nile banks, where you will have your boat trip. This boat trip gives the ultimate feel of the Murchison falls and their strength the closer you get.

You also get to spot the aquatic life of the park and these are the crocodiles and the hippopotami that stay at the riverbanks.

After the experience, you will connect back to the hotel to refresh and enjoy dinner.

Day 3: Hike to the top of the falls and transfer to Ziwa rhino sanctuary

Have breakfast at the lodge and after exit the park. Check out of your hotel and drive to connect to the top of the falls for the breathtaking views at the top of Murchison falls national park. This is a great chance to do some birding and take beautiful photos.

Leave the top of the falls and transfer to ziwa rhino sanctuary, you will participate in the rhino tracking. The safari experience is an on-foot experience that involves hiking along the trails in the sanctuary, which will lead you to the species.

Upon reaching the species, you will get to spend some time watching the rhinos in their natural habitat as they go about their daily activities. You will also have the chance to ask as many questions as possible about the species with the knowledgeable guide who will give you all the relevant information about the species.

After the safari experience you can either participate in the nature walks, which will lead you to a number of attractions like the elands, gazelles, the shoebill stork, water bucks, and many more to make your safari experience quite rewarding, or you will make your way back to Kampala city.

After the safari experience, head back to Kampala city, where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in Kampala city, where you will check into your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Pick up and Transfer to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide to start to transfer you to Bwindi impenetrable national park which takes about an 8- to 9-hour drive, inclusive of a stopover at the equator. Then proceed with a drive to Mbarara with a stopover for lunch enroute.

Continue to drive on the way; you will enjoy great views of rolling hills, terraced farmlands, beautiful landscapes among others. Upon arrival in the park, you will check into the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park

Wake up and have early morning breakfast. Your driver will pick you up and transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking before heading out on your incredible experience of gorilla trekking in the tropical rainforest.

After a short briefing you will be accompanied by the ranger and you’re free to ask him any question about mountain gorillas.

Gorilla Trek can take 2 to 8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once gorillas are found, you will be given one hour to watch them as they play around and feed their younger ones and learn their lifestyle as well as enjoy your packed lunch boxes with memorable picture taking for your future remembrance.

Later, get back to the park headquarters and meet your safari driver—he drives you back to the lodge for refreshments. Dinner and an overnight stay as the night before.

Day 6:  Departure | Return to Kampala/Entebbe

Wake up to a leisurely breakfast, check out of the lodge and then meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to Kampala.

Upon arrival in Kampala, your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight or drop you off at your hotel.
